Including your kids in the process of making a meal or snack greatly increases the chance that they’ll eat it. It also increases the chances of them trying new foods in the future!
So getting your kids involved in the menu planning, grocery shopping, food preparation and/or clean up is great way to expand their palate and get good stuff into them, while possibly giving mom and dad a little help.
Another amazing benefit of getting your kids in the kitchen is a boost of confidence! Teaching your children how to to do something themselves boosts their self-esteem and the chance that they’ll want to do it again. Giving them the confidence to fend for themselves (safely) in the kitchen will also increase how much food they eat at home, thereby providing an extra level of oversight into what they’re eating overall and helping mom and dad keep them healthy and thriving.
“I LOVE parsnips, they’re like spicy carrots!” -Davie, 6 year old Wildflower Kitchen chef
The best part about getting your kids in the kitchen is that they learn how to make good food choices for their future. From a young age they are armed with the knowledge to make healthy, sustainable food choices. It’s sort of like that old saying, if you give a man a zucchini he’ll eat for a day, but if you teach him how to grow zucchini he’ll eat for life.
At Wildflower Kitchen we guide chefs as young as age 4 on how to make their favorite dishes and have a great time while doing it. We work in classrooms, after school programs, camps, community centers, private homes, party halls and more. Contact us today see what we can do for you!
